Scott Elson
Scott Elson is an audio engineer and record producer with over three decades of experience helping artists realize their creative vision. As a seasoned mixing and mastering engineer, he collaborates with artists around the world, tailoring his approach to the unique needs of every project.
As a producer, Scott successfully guides artists through each stage of the record production process, always focused on achieving exceptional results. Artists trust him for his fresh perspective, honest feedback, and unwavering commitment to what best serves the music.
Early in his career, Scott joined the team at Gateway Mastering Studios in Portland, Maine, working under legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig.
From the outset, Scott was trusted with upholding Gateway’s exacting technical standards through producing flawless production masters, managing the studio’s ever-evolving infrastructure, and working closely with an international roster of artists, producers, and engineers.
Before long, he was also assisting in daily mastering sessions and taking on mastering clients of his own.
Scott’s time at Gateway provided invaluable experience - working on classic remastering projects for artists like Sam Cooke, The Rolling Stones, and Queen alongside new modern classics by such artists as Incubus, Beck, and Foo Fighters. He not only learned the creative art of mastering in stereo and surround formats, but also the importance of producing technically perfect production masters.
Driven by a desire to be part of the creative process from the very beginning, Scott then co-founded Acadia Recording Company in Portland’s Back Bay neighborhood. Built from the ground up, Acadia quickly became a go-to studio for artists looking for a trusted, collaborative, and unique space. At Acadia, Scott played a hands-on role at every stage of production - recording, mixing, and mastering records that reflected each artist’s vision. Though Acadia is now under new ownership, the studio’s spirit of creativity and excellence continues to thrive.
Following Acadia's success, and with the motivation to expand his work into modern immersive formats, Scott founded Scott Elson Music in a purpose-built studio equipped for up to 7.1.4 audio production and calibrated to Dolby Atmos standards. This allows him to now bring cutting-edge spatial audio mixing and mastering to his clients. He uses a curated selection of analog and digital gear depending on what’s best for the music, with favorites made by SPL, PMC, Sonnox, Lynx, Genelec, Manley, SSL, Dangerous Music, FabFilter and more.
Scott draws on a lifelong background in music - growing up in a family of musical performers and educators who instilled in him an appreciation for diverse genres. His unique approach combines extensive education with real-world experience. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech alongside a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, where he studied guitar and graduated from the prestigious Music Production & Engineering program.
He is an active member of the Audio Engineering Society, staying connected to the latest innovations and standards in the industry, and a member of the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers Wing where he participates in voting for the Grammy Awards.
Whether you’re an independent artist or a major label, Scott’s goal is to make high-quality mixing, mastering, and record production available to artists of every stature. With a foundation tailored to the needs of audio and music production, he brings a unique combination of technical expertise and creative feel to every record he’s a part of.
